We are Carol and Maggie, two women in our seventies. We have been good friends since our children were in pre-school together, and business partners for the last 25 years. We came to the farm because of Carol’s lifelong interest in fiber, spinning and weaving. Fiber is wonderful, but our sheep produce another wonderful product: lamb. To maximize the sale of this lamb, we added a small herd of beef cattle. Feeling strongly that grains are best used as human food, we were determined to raise our cattle and sheep on grasses and forbs. After much research — and much to our delight — we discovered that this “grass-fed” diet was not only good for our animals, but conveyed a multitude of health benefits for the human consumer.
We very purposely picked two very gentle breeds that are easy to work with — Murray Gray cattle and Romney sheep. Both produce delicious meat on grass alone. They are the best of both worlds. Since we firmly believe in pure breeds, we also sell quality breeding stock.
It has been a steep learning curve. We’ve learned so much and continue to learn. Every day is an adventure. We love our animals and the life they have given to us.
