Celebrating 20 Years of Operation!
Tawanda Farms is a cattle and sheep ranch in the rural seclusion of Siskiyou County, Northern California. We are proud to offer high-quality grass-fed, grass finished beef and lamb, fleece, and breeding stock.
Our Fleece
Our wonderful long wool Romney sheep produce beautiful fiber. Because our sheep are not coated, the locking structure and crimp are very visible. Not only do we have white fiber, but also a large variation in colored fiber. We breed for recessively colored animals; therefore, we have shades from very light gray to black to variegation within a fleece.
Our Breeding Stock
We present our Romney breeding stock with great pride and trust. All breeders have been selected for the possession of several traits which include classic Romney conformation, measured average fiber diameter, calm temperament, outstanding growth slope and a guaranteed color pattern. We supply our buyers with pre- and post-sales support.
Our Meat
Our animals live a stress-free life, grazing on our irrigated pastures and on nutritious native weeds. As of 2015, we are converting our pastures over to dry land species, in order to minimize the use of irrigated water.
We use no growth hormones or maintenance antibiotics. We butcher only in the fall, when the animals are coming off pasture and before they begin consuming stored hay. This is when the finish on the meat animals is best — straight from fresh green grass.
About Us
We are two women in our seventies. We have been good friends since our children were in pre-school together,
and business partners for the last 25 years. We came to the farm because of Carol's lifelong interest in fiber, spinning and weaving...
